Sampson to seek a second term on city council

PRINCE GEORGE — Kyle Sampson took to the steps of City Hall this afternoon to announce his plans for reelection to city council.

“I’ve lived here for 20 years,” he told the crowd. “I’ve been afforded countless opportunities personally and professionally – including an opportunity at public service, my greatest honour over the past four years.”

Looking back at the past four years, Sampson said he spent time both observing and leading.

“I confidently led a number of initiatives that brought further fiscal responsibility, advocacy, transparency.”

He says those actions included voting against two tax increases and recommending budget cuts that would have seen lower increases to taxation for residents and businesses.

In addition to that he called for a full-scale review of the city’s capital management process and for the procurement of a legal review over the entire parkade for a fulsome understanding “of what happened in the early stages of that (parkade) project and how we can stop it from happening again.”

If elected, Sampson says he plans to bring a common sense and logical approach to the council table. Among his pledges, include the need for a road map to reinvest in the city’s aging infrastructure along with a vision for what our city will look like in 10, 20 and 30 years.

He says the city also needs to address crime, especially “downtown and in the bowl area,” and find “untapped revenue opportunities that aren’t met through traditional taxation.”

Election day is October 15.
