HUDSON’S HOPE — Nerve racking times in Hudson’s Hope due to an encroaching wildfire.

The Prince George Fire Centre says the Dinosaur Lake fire is located approximately five kilometres southwest of the Hudson’s Hope Bridge and Peace Canyon Dam.

This fire is currently estimated at eight hectares and is classified as out of control. Water skimmers are currently utilizing Moberly Lake to aid in suppression efforts.

This lightning-caused fire is now considered a wildfire of note.

“A reminder to all water recreationalists to remain clear of all water skimming aircraft so these resources can safely pick up water on the lake surface. The skimmers often work in cycles, skimming from the same body of water repeatedly,” says the BC Wildfire Service.

“Please be aware that although they may have left they area, it is likely that they will be returning. For the safety of responders and the public, stay clear of active wildfire sites whether on the ground, in the air or on the water.”

The following resources have been deployed to battle this blaze:

  • 19 firefighters
  • 1 helicopter
  • 5 airtankers
  • One unit crew, including four skimmers and one bird dog and one helicopter
