PRINCE GEORGE — There are now five candidates for mayor in Prince George.

Simon Yu, a long-time community member and businessman joins Todd Corrigall, Terri McConachie, Roy Stewart, and Christopher Wood in the race for the mayor’s chair.

Yu says he immigrated to Prince George from Hong Kong carrying only two suitcases nearly 50 years ago.

The long-time active citizen and volunteer says he’s inspired by the history and aspirations of the people “of our great city.”

“Simon Yu is not a politician, but he keeps a promise of integrity and dedicated public service in every moment. He is a community leader and business owner. Through his four decades of experience as an instructor at CNC, board of directors of UNBC, Prince George Airport Authority, the Downtown Business Association, and many other community organizations, Simon has forged a strong community vision for Prince George,” reads a statement from his campaign.

His platform for mayor includes a promise to commit to improve affordability and transparency at City Hall through carefully managing taxation and spending for citizens.

It also includes a promise to collaborate with all levels of government and stakeholders. In addition to that, he promises to build a long-term infrastructure capital plan and address the current addictions, homelessness, and mental health issues facing our community.

Election day is scheduled for October 15.
