Labour Day march returns to Prince George

“We’ve done a lot of good changes over the last couple of years within the labour code in employment standards,” said Baker. “That’s part of this day to get out and celebrate, you know, what we’ve always accomplished.”

The group also says there is still plenty of work to go.

“How about, you know, ten sick days instead of five? But we’ll keep advocating for that forever. As long as it’s something that will help people at work,” said Baker.

With the goal in mind to be seen, the committee marched around the city’s downtown core.

“We’re going to be under that banner that says, labour movement, past, present, future fighting for everybody,” said Dawn Hemingway of the Labour Day Organizer Committee. ” It’s become a tradition since we started doing Labor Day so people can see us and give them a voice in the community.”

After the march, people returned to Canada Games Plaza for free food, music and entertainment.
