PRINCE GEORGE– The UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team is currently top of the table in goals scored. A big reason why is because of 4th-year forward Micheal Henman. It’s not often hat tricks happen, much less in back-to-back games. However, the striker accomplished that feat last weekend.

I don’t think I’ve ever done that in my career, so I was pretty stoked about it. For my confidence it’s huge. I mean, it’s hard to be not confident after that, but yeah, I’m feeling good going to the next weekend. – Timberwolves Striker, Michael Henman

Not only setting a record of being the first player to ever score back-back hattricks in Canada West history but also breaking a Timberwolves program record scoring 7 goals in a season. The crazy part? It’s only 4 games in.

As a result of his historic weekend, the Victoria native has also been named Canada West & U SPORTS Player of the Week. Something fellow teammate and Henman’s best friend, Cody Gysbers believes that It was only a matter of time before his hard work paid off.

He is one of the best strikers in Canada and he’s shown in previous years where he’s always top three in shots. But this weekend he really made it work and he finished those chances. – Timberwolves Centre Back, Cody Gysbers

It’s now off to TRU for the Timberwolves. A team that’s flourishing as well with 3 wins on the season. However, Head Coach Steve Simonson knows his team will give TRU a hard-fought match. Especially with a player like Henman opening up other opportunities for other players.

We don’t want to fall on the 1 player. It’s great that Michael has that in his locker now and that he did that. But what we know is, It’s not a feat that’s going to be easily repeated. So, we need him to keep playing well and we need the other guys to keep playing well. – Timberwolves Head Coach, Steve Simonson

Henman’s two hat tricks are also the first recorded in a single Canada West season since 2018.
