PRINCE GEORGE- Local Mounties were out bright and early Wednesday morning to remind parents and drivers to slow down when entering school zones as kids return to their studies this week.

“We’re here reminding parents and everyone driving through the school zones that they’re back in effect,” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper. ” During school days, we have to remember to slow down for our most vulnerable and probably our most easily distracted citizens in Prince George.”

A handful of police officers and volunteers were set up out front of Malaspina Elementary School. one of the more busy school zones relaying the message.

“We try to pick out the schools that are hot spots,” said Cooper. ” This tends to be a bit of a busier road, and parents or drivers go through here quite quickly.”

While ICBC and the RCMP were out front of an elementary school, there were tips for new drivers heading to high schools.

“It’s exciting when you get your license. Everybody looks forward to that opportunity,” said Doug Mac Donald, the road safety and community coordinator with ICBC. ” One of the big things this time of year is to remember to slow down, give yourself more time to get to where you’re going.”

The RCMP and ICBC will visit multiple school zones over the week, spreading the same message.
