PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars have gained alumni Carter Rigby as an assistant coach just in time for the start of the 2022-23 Western Hockey League (WHL) season.

Rigby comes from Osoyoos, where he was head coach for the KIJHL Osoyoos Coyotes.

The 28-year-old spent the 2009-10 season and part of the next with the Cougars.

“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity Mark Lamb has given me to join the Cougars,” said Rigby.

“It’s exciting to be at the WHL level and I can’t wait to learn from Mark and Josh.”

Rigby played for GM and head coach Lamb in 2014-15 with the Swift Current Broncos.

“Carter played for me and has an infectious personality that will fit in with our group,” said Lamb.

“He’s done a great job with Osoyoos and is ready for this opportunity.”

“It’s been my goal to get to the WHL and I am so excited to work with the great group of young talent in PG,” said Rigby.

“I was drafted by Prince George and it’s funny how things come full circle.”

The Cougars preseason continues tonight with a game against the Victoria Royals at 7 p.m. at the Jon Baillie Arena in Port Coquitlam.
