PRINCE GEORGE– With high school football starting up again many boys are looking forward to putting on their pads for the season. However, boys aren’t the only ones excited as one coach and a group of girls looking to start their own all-female football team.

Girls taking part in tackling drills and learning how to throw a tight spiral. That was the scene Wednesday night at Duchess Park. In fact, girls all over the city joined the Duchess Park football practice with the goal of starting their own team. All made possible by Mike Rositano. Who is looking to coach these girls up and possibly play some games against some junior high school teams by the end of the season.

What we’re going to do first, we’re going to play six-on-six with the girls, so they get used to hitting and tackling themselves and get progress. So probably in mid to late October, we’re going to actually have a couple of games against the grade eights or great nines, depending on which school it is. –Mike Rositano, Head Coach

And the girls couldn’t be more thrilled about it as they are looking forward to learning about the game of football.

I was really excited because I grew up around football, but I was a competitive dancer so I never had the chance to play competitive. But my brothers always played and my dad was a head coach. So once I found out there was a girl’s team, I was all for it. I wanted to participate 100%. – Payton Ronahan

All while helping out each other on and off the field.

It’s going to be amazing because we’re going to be spending so much time together. They’re going to be my football family, and I’m just hoping that we can expand it and get as many girls as we can. – Summer Jorgenson

Rositano encourages other girls to come out and give the sport a try. If you are interested you can reach out to the coach on Facebook
