PRINCE GEORGE- Myeloma Canada hosted a very special Saturday event for a good cause at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

“This is the Multiple Myeloma March,” said Beth and Delina Gentleman, a mother-daughter duo fighting against Myeloma. . “It’s the biggest fundraising event that Myeloma Canada hosts yearly, and this is the sixth one in Prince George.”

An event that is incredibly impactful for anyone affected by Multiple Myeloma.

“They’re a very important fundraiser, all the funds funnel into a variety of different focuses, not the least of which is research,” said Dr. Phil Harbridge.

Myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. With the funding from the marches each year, experts believe better treatment and possibly a cure are in sight.

“I think chemo that significantly impacts the myeloma growth and stops it altogether, Zero reading. People get to that and then have that be remission for like ten, 15, 20 years. That would be amazing,” said Harbridge.

Those involved with Myeloma Canada hope that if you see early signs, you go to get tested.

“I’d like people to get an annual blood test, and if they’re anemic, make sure they follow through on it,” said Gentleman. “Sometimes it’s just written off as a bladder infection or something like that. So it needs to be investigated.”
