UNBC receives $400k for research projects
PRINCE GEORGE — The University of Northern British Columbia is one of eight B.C. post-secondaries to receive an investment from the provincial government, announced in a press release Sunday (Sept. 18).
The university received $396,557 for four research projects. Stephen Dery received $97,000 for his work in monitoring extreme climate and weather events. Jianhui Zhou got nearly $100,000 to enhance the infrastructure for wood building vibration and acoustics research. Kendra Furber is researching myelin gene expression at the DNA, RNA and protein level and Matthew Reid is working on a terahertz innovation hub.
“We are fortunate to have world-class talent at many of our post-secondary institutions,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training. “By providing funding for new infrastructure through the BC Knowledge Development Fund, our researchers are able to acquire new state-of-the-art equipment that will help people and industry be future ready.”
“This funding ensures UNBC researchers and their colleagues across the province have the latest equipment and technology they need to conduct meaningful and exceptional research programs,” said Kathy Lewis, UNBC’s interim vice president of research and innovation.
