Earthquakes Canada confirmed a 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit BC’s Northern Capital at 3:07 Wednesday afternoon.
The location of the quake has been identified as approximately 34 kilometres southwest of the city.
Adam Hawkins, a Ph.D. candidate in Glacial Geology at the University of Northern BC said earthquakes in this area are extremely rare. Hawkins called it a ‘light earthquake’ upon initial observations and reports although a noteworthy event considering the rarity.
Citizens have reported feeling movement throughout the city including surrounding areas such as Salmon Valley, Buckhorn and others.
It has been a long stretch without an earthquake in Prince George with no similar events in the past five years.
