Tour de North 2022 raises over $150K for childhood cancer research
PRINCE GEORGE — It will go down in the books as another successful Cops for Cancer Tour de North.
Made up of 14 law enforcement community members and emergency services personnel, the 850-kilometre trek from Dawson Creek to Williams Lake raised $150,999 this year.
In a partnership between The Canadian Cancer Society and local first responders, the proceeds will be directed towards life-saving childhood cancer research and a national support system for families affected by cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) says 1,050 children (ages 0-14) were diagnosed with cancer in 2021. Over the last five years, CCS has invested $16.4 million in childhood cancer research projects. This investment is contributing to improved outcomes, as the five-year survival rate for childhood cancer is now 84 percent, an increase from 71 percent in the 1980s.
