BC Liberals have new name

PRINCE GEORGE – For years, it has been the BC Liberal party, but it has now changed it’s name to the BC United party. And there was no shortage of suggestions when the floor was opened to changing the name.

“We were looking for BC United came up with a number of other suggestions quite early on,” says local MLA Mike Morris. “With two thousand people who submitted various names. And iterations of each name. And that one seemed to resonate the most.”

Mike Morris says “BC United” better reflects the new face of the party. And the other aim is to get away from the overarching confusion between the BC Liberals and the federal Liberals.

Gary Wilson says the BC Liberals are much more Laissez Faire. Pro-business and let the chips fall where they may.

But the transformation of the BC Liberal Party to the BC United Party is far from over. The name change has to be ratified by the membership, but the thresh hold for that vote has to be determined:is it 50 plus one or a majority?

“All new marketing,” says Morris. “So new colours, new logo, new everything. And we want to put a lot of time and effort into that so we get it right.”

The ratification should be done by year’s and the current look will be a thing of the past for the BC Liberal Party.
