PRINCE GEORGE – Around 75 residents attended the all-candidates trustee forum Wednesday evening at Vanier hall. The forum was hosted by the District Parent Advisory Council, the Prince George District Teachers Association, and CUPE.

Residents listened to twelve of the 13 trustee candidates running for office. Candidate Mike Rositano was the only one absent.

The candidates answered a series of questions. Cathy Fortin drew cheers from a segment of the audience when she said SOGI programs on sexual orientation and gender identity should be banned from the curriculum.

“We don’t endorse candidates. But if asked by a member to provide a personal opinion, I will start with an exclaimer; This is my personal opinion… I was impressed by some, and maybe others; I have concerns with some of the answers I heard.”

The questions ranged from how trustees would deal with the teacher shortage and retention, supporting senior management and what accountability means to them.

Another controversial comment came from incumbent Milton Mahoney, who told the crowd that there needs to be a board composed of brand new people, claiming that since winning a by-election earlier this year, the board has tried to silence him. General election day is October 15 though advanced voting begins on October 5.
