Trustee Candidate for SD-57 Campaigns to Remove Sex Ed From Schools
PRINCE GEORGE – When it comes to anti-racism education, and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity curriculums in schools, Cathy Fortin is the self proclaimed “big bad voice” speaking up to say, what she says, others wont.
“Regarding anti-racism in schools, and this… SOGI program… someone has to be the voice of the kids, and speak up against it. I know there are a lot of students that are uncomfortable with it, but they’re afraid to say anything, and there are parents who are uncomfortable with it, but they’re afraid to say anything, and there are teachers that dont want to teach it! So I’m here to be the big bad voice” – Cathy Fortin
Fortin’s campaign wants to see sexual education, SOGI in particular, completely removed from School District 57 curriculum, arguing that it’s too much vulgar information for young minds, leading to more stress and anxiety in the classroom. Fortin claims the current programming equates to sexual grooming of minors, and would rather that sexual education be handled privately at home.
“It (SOGI) needs to be taken out of the schools completely. Children are children! Children aren’t interested in sex, you’re just confusing them! In the climate we’re living in now, there’s so much uncertainty in children’s lives, a lot of them suffer from anxiety that they dont need to… they’re not allowed to just be kids anymore. Forcing sexual information on them before it’s appropriate is not right. I feel like our education system is grooming our children for sex.” – Cathy Fortin
