Prince George Red Dress Society marks National Day of Action for MMIWG
PRINCE GEORGE ─ On the Highway of Tears, at Ferry Avenue, stands a monument dedicated to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls, and October 4 is an important day for those who have lost loved ones.
October 4 is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Gender Diverse People, and the monument is a reminder for all those who drive by of those who were taken from their families.
Tammy Miese, president of the Prince George Red Dress Society, says that the monument was created with the collaboration with families to commemorate the honour of missing and murdered Indigenous women & girls.
Miese felt that it was important to come back to the monument today to honour and remember those women and girls who have been murdered or still remain missing and to also raise awareness.
