PRINCE GEORGE– The UNBC Women’s soccer team currently has a 3-5-2 record, which sees them sitting in 6th place. The last 4 games will be crucial for the team as they try and make a playoff push.

The team is coming off a 4-point weekend which saw them win and then tie the #2 ranked team in Canada. They have already doubled their point total from last year, with a roster that has a combined 19 first and 2nd-year players. One of those players is second-year forward Kiera Hayman who says even though it’s a young team it’s a great place to be.

“It’s really nice having a young team and it’s a very good environment. We all ask each other questions all the time, but it’s really nice having players like Kiana with us so she can still kind of be like guiding us in the right direction” – Kjera Hayman, 2nd Year Forward

For the more experienced players like Kiana Swift, she’s seen the younger players grow over the games that have been played this season.

“Definitely, we are a younger team, but our first and second years are so eager to learn and I think that’s really great for our program. They all want to get better, they all want to develop and I think we’ve already seen so much growth with our team throughout this season.” – Kiana Swift, 4th-year Midfielder

Another player in her first year is striker Kate Rattee who moved to Prince George this year. Although Kate is redshirting this year she has put herself in a position to learn from one of UNBC’s great woman strikers, Paige Payne.

I actually have gone to (Payne) for advice. She’s said that I remind her of her when she first started. So I’m hoping to one day be close to her level. It would be awesome because she’s like a role model for me. Definitely want to be scoring goals like her one day. –Kate Rattee, 1st year Striker

Up next 4 crucial home games against Calgary, TRU, and UBCO, all with big playoff implications. The Timberwolves are 3 points behind TRU for the 5th and final Playoff spot in the division.
