Gift card scam dupes unsuspecting Williams Lake residents

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — An old scam is claiming new victims in Williams Lake.

According to RCMP in that Cariboo city, someone claiming to be a police officer is asking others for gift cards for a variety of reasons.

Almost unbelievably, police say the scammer has been successful several times in obtaining gift cards from unsuspecting people.

“Under no circumstances would the RCMP ever ask for gift cards of any kind, regardless of the reason,” said Staff Sgt. Del Byron of Williams Lake RCMP.
