Russian Missile Strikes Pummel Ukraine on Thanksgiving Weekend

PRINCE GEORGE – It was a brutal weekend across Ukraine, as missile strikes rained down on civilian targets across the nation. The Russian government authorizing what it calls “retaliation” for the “terror bombing” of a vital bridge link between mainland Russia and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.

In the early morning hours of October 8th, a large explosion rocked the Crimean Bridge, sparking fires and causing a portion of the roadway to collapse into the sea. Russian President Vladimir Putin is calling the attack an act of terrorism, and unleashed a series of missile strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine as a response.

“The disabling of the bridge prompted Russia to kind of lash out, which has been the way it’s operated in the past… when it’s been humiliated, it sort of lashes out and indiscriminately bombs civilian targets” – Gary Wilson, UNBC Political Scientist
