PGSS teacher awarded prestigious teaching accolade
PRINCE GEORGE — A local Prince George Secondary School teacher has been awarded one of the highest honours in the nation for teaching.
Shannon Schinkel, who teaches drama, english and social studies, was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, Certificate of Achievement. Schinkel was given the honour for success and dedication in changing classroom culture.
Schinkel says that receiving the award felt great, but also a bit flabbergasting. She noted that despite her name being on the honour, it can be attributed to a great number of educators who have helped her along the way. She hopes that the award will continue to put a spotlight on teachers who are taking the effort to help make students succeed, not only in school, but afterwards as well.
