PRINCE GEORGE – As one of its last acts, Council approved $475,000 in the next budget to a new multisport facility on Massey Drive across from the Fire Hall.

The money tops up nearly a million dollars committed by Jumpstart for the facility.

The selected site is the existing tennis court/basketball court area across from Firehall #1 and adjacent to the existing skate park along Massey Drive. A civil consultant was procured and provided the City with geotechnical reports, site design/construction drawings, and a construction estimate for construction purposes. Geotechnical investigation and civil site design revealed that the existing tennis court site was a suitable candidate to achieve the requirements necessary for the multisport court. To maximize the play area and take advantage of the efficiencies of renewing the tennis courts, the existing basketball court was included in the final concept. The City chose the site of the tennis courts as the courts are in disrepair and it would lessen the financial burden for the project.
