PRINCE GEORGE- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual tradition to help acknowledge those struggling with the disease.

According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer, with more than 200 thousand new cases expected this year. This is Why medical professionals recommend taking precautionary measures.

“We definitely want those with female physiology to be, we say, breast aware, which is to be aware of any changes in the breast,” said Dr. Colin Mar. ” That may be a lump, skin change, discharge in the nipple. Any of those things symptoms are potentially concerning.”

Fundraising plays a significant role during Breast Cancer Awareness month, and UNBC has a great promotion this week.

“The Get Pink’d Fundraiser is a fundraiser that our club hosts yearly to raise money for breast cancer awareness,” said Naomi Cole, a Health Sciences Student Association member. “Students come, donate money, and circle a professor’s name.”

Dr. Tammy Klassen-Ross is the early favourite and is excited to be involved.

“First of all, I am really honoured to be nominated,” said Klassen-Ross. ” I got an email from the Health Science Club that I had been nominated, and they asked, you know, Are you okay with this? I’m like, Oh my goodness, this is so awesome.”

The winner of the fundraiser will wear a large pink bra or a pink feather boa to their class next week.
