RCMP and ICBC Team Up for Pedestrian Safety Month

Oct 18, 2022 | 4:36 PM

PRINCE GEORGE- Early monday morning you might have noticed yellow vested volunteers, accompanied by some local RCMP officers from the downtown detachment canvasing bus stops at the Pine Centre Mall and the College of New Caledonia, braving the morning chill to hand out eagle feather reflectors, and offer up safe walking tips to commuters.

In North Cental BC, at least 50 people are injured in vehicle – pedestrian collisions every year., and those numbers are much higher in the more populated regions in the south. Doug Mac Donald From ICBC says with dark skies and icy conditions on the way, now is the time to get smart about street safety, for those travelling on foot, or 4-wheels.

we’re seeing the shorter days, which means its getting darker earlier and staying dark later in the morning, so when we’re on the way to work, on our way to school, as drivers we need to be watching out for pedestrians that are out there… we may not see them as well as we could a couple months ago” – Doug Mac Donald, ICBC
