PRINCE GEORGE- With November only weeks away. The weather has become more unusual every day, with temps in the teens since the start of this month.

Dr. Peter Jackson explains the mild weather won’t be around for long.

“It cools off quite a bit in November,” said Jackson. “So we’re seeing that transition to more seasonal temperatures for sure.”

With cooler days on the way, The People in Prince George and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to be prepared this winter.

“You need to start getting yourself ready and getting your vehicle ready for winter,” said Trace Acres of Road Safety at Work.

Getting ready for winter includes changing to winter tires marked by the three-peaked mountains or branded with M/S for mud and snow. It also means changing the way you drive in your vehicle.

“You need to shift that attitude to, okay, I’m going to need to take a little bit of extra time,” said Jackson.

As for what to expect when it comes to winter conditions this season, It is complicated.

“We are heading into apparently a La Nina year, which generally, on average, is a bit cooler and wetter, snowier for our part of the world. In contrast, because of our warmth, the oceans off the north of the North Pacific are warmer than average, and that usually means it’s going to be warmer than normal,” said Jackson.

Next week’s average high temperatures are expected to hover around the eight-degree mark.
