PRINCE GEORGE — A family is still processing what has happened after a destructive fire destroyed their rental home and all of their belongings.

The Kaur and Singh family was woken up early Saturday morning to the smell of smoke. The family only had a few minutes to escape, as the fire was already rapidly growing.

After their escape and the fire was under control, the Kaurs and Singhs were left with nothing. All of their important documents, bank cards, clothes, and family photos among many other possessions, were destroyed.

Harpreet Singh said that in the aftermath of the fire, she and her family were left homeless and without much help. She noted that the Indo-Canadian community in Prince George has been helping her and her family, managing to find them a community hall to sleep in. However, that situation is only temporary.

Unfortunately, the family did not have renter’s insurance, and this means that many of the supports and services they need access to will not be available. The family is also asking for help in regards how to get all of their important documents re-done, such as passports, driver’s licenses and immigration documents.

A family friends has set up a GoFundMe page to help the Kaur and Singh family get back on their feet. The goal is to raise $20,000. If you want to donate, here’s a link.
