Citizen Budget ready to go

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s a chance for taxpayers to tinker with the City’s budget, which sat at $143.6 million dollars last year.

The online Citizens’ Budget looks at everything from the fire and police budgets, the two largest line items in the budget each year. And it’s back this fall.

“Citizen Budget lets residents allocate dollars toward City Services according to their priorities,” explains Michael Lee, Senior Communications Advisor. “And it will also let them see the impact of their allocations on their property taxes. They also have a chance to fill out a survey. And once they fill out the survey, all of the results will be put forward to Council during the 2023 budget deliberations.”

The results are considered when it comes to budget deliberations in the new year. And while the results play a role in the final decision, it isn’t the only factor Mayor and Council consider when nailing down the final figures.

“Individual Councillors do meet with business groups, with seniors groups and a lot of advocacy groups,” says Cori Ramsay. “And residents about what they’re looking for in the budget.” As Michael Lee mentioned, this is the seventh Citizen Budget and it gaining in use each year.

The survey will be on line until November 13th with the results to be released in December with the 2023 budget deliberations beginning in January.
