New Newfoundland & Labrador Social Club Planning for Jiggs Dinner Potluck
PRINCE GEORGE – British Columbia is a long way from the Atlantic Ocean, and Prince George, a different world entirely than what many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, like myself, are used to. It’s that fish out of water feeling that was the inspiration behind the city’s new Newfoundland & Labrador Social Club, organized by Bill and Fran Hart, Newfie ex-pats, and 20 years residents of BC.
Walking into the Hart family home in College Heights, you’d be forgiven if you thought you were suddenly transported 9000 kilometers east to the Island of Newfoundland. Old photos, trinkets, and memories from home adorn the walls of their modest double wide trailer. Enough to make even the toughest old salt choke up with tears remembering the good ole day’s gone by… exactly what happed the night of the NL Club’s first meeting.
“The response I got was just extraordinary… We had about twenty very, very enthusiastic Newfoundlanders show up, and before the event was over, we were planning for our next social get together!” – Fran Hart, NL Social Club Organizer
