School bus service a concern for Bear Lake residents

BEAR LAKE – A couple of months into the new school year, finding a solution to the lack of bussing continues to hit speed bumps.

In fact Jennifer Reimer of Bear Lake says the absence of school bussing is affecting her children’s education.

According to Reimer, about 10 to 15 students from Bear Lake depend on the bus. To make things worse, Reimer got a call from her child’s school, concerned that her child was falling behind because of the lack of attendance.

“Communication has not been great. We really want to hear those problems so that we can rectify it. I think we heard about the situation with the individual parent last week, and we contacted the school to say this is an issue that we have to help solve. Let’s not be calling saying you need to get your child to school when it’s something that’s out of their control.”

School District 57 staff is trying to resolve the lack of bus service in Bear Lake with a potential bus transfer.

In the meantime, parents check the School District 57 website to see if a bus is scheduled and if not, they scramble to get their young ones to school.
