daylight savings

Clocks go back an hour on Sunday

PRINCE GEORGE — It’s that time of year that very few people look forward to. The time change is upon us. However, we will get an additional hour of sleep out of this time change, but some are still calling for an end to the practice.

For years now, there have been calls across B.C. to abolish daylight savings time entirely. In 2019, the B.C. government introduced legislation to stop the changing of the clocks twice a year. Although, this would only come into effect if Washington State, Oregon and California join B.C. and move to make daylight savings time permanent. Making daylight savings permanent would give BC residents more light in the afternoon and evening hours, but mornings could be dark until 9:30 a.m. here in Prince George.

In March 2022, the U.S. Senate passed legislation that would stop the changing of the clocks starting in November 2023, which would bring B.C. one step closer to eliminate the changing of the clocks twice a year, but does not guarantee that it would still come into effect in the U.S., as it has to be passed in the House of Representatives and be signed by the President.
