Better at Home helping seniors remain independent

Nov 3, 2022 | 4:10 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – Since spring, the Prince George Council of Seniors has administered the Better at Home Program, helping seniors continue living independently by providing simple support services.

Better at Home Coordinator Terry Runions frequently fields phone calls from seniors who want to remain independent in their homes.

For many seniors, their home is where their heart is and leaving can affect their quality of life.

The efforts of volunteers and partner agencies provide much-needed services, and the program is looking for more volunteers as the program grows.

The local program provides services that range from light housekeeping to friendly visits.

“ We haven’t even done any advertising really for the program yet. We’ve gone from 49 clients that were just receiving grocery online, grocery shopping and delivery to over 100 clients and, some friendly visits, friendly phone calls.”

And they would like to remind everyone to keep an eye on seniors in their neighbourhoods by clearing their walkways.
