North BC’s First Pig Sanctuary

Prince George – A local woman has created the first pig sanctuary in central bc. Many of the pigs living at the sanctuary were surrendered.

Kerri Hegel, the owner of PG Tickled Pig Rescue, has always had a soft spot for pot-belly pigs.

While searching for a companion animal, she learned that some pigs were being neglected.

“In the last week, I’ve been asked to take four pigs in and in a lot of cases, it is just surrendered because they realize the pig doesn’t fit their family. That’s where I’ll try and help them keep the pig in the family or move the pig to another household where they can bond with humans as well.” Kerri Hegel PG Tickled Pig Rescue

Potbelly pigs are known to reach 300 pounds and live up to 18 years. Something some owners are not prepared to handle.

Hegel covers the cost of PG Tickled Pig Rescue as she is not registered.

Currently, the sanctuary accepts frozen organic food scrapes for animals. Those wanting to support the work at the PG Tickled Pig Rescue can contact them on their Facebook page.
