What to expect when travelling this winter

PRINCE GEORGE-As the air gets colder, and the snow gets heavier. Air travel becomes much more tricky as we head into the winter months.

So the question on everyone’s mind is how do I stay ahead of the game when travelling this winter?

“Allow yourself a little more time,” said Gordon Duke, president and CEO of Prince George Airport Authority. ” People have more stuff in the winter with larger coats and larger carry-on bags, so it just takes a little bit longer to get through that process.”

It’s not just about the bags you pack when travelling this season. If you’re flying from Prince George and heading somewhere with a stopover, the more time, the better.

“I would say you should build in a little more connection time sometimes than you would in the summer, where you’re pretty sure you’re going to be able to make that, you know, hour and 20-minute connection. Maybe you want to book the next flight and make it a two-hour connection,” said Duke.

Unfortunately, delays are a part of air travel, and that call falls on the airlines. If a flight is delayed or even cancelled this winter, the airline should re-book the flight or provide accommodations, but there is more to it than that.

“If the delay is between three to six hours, it’s $400, six to nine is $700, and anything over nine hours is $1000,” said Dr. Gabor Lukacs, the president of Air Passenger Rights.

Flights regularly leaving from YXS include trips to Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria, and Edmonton, with flights to Tucson, Arizona, starting next month.
