PRINCE GEORGE- In temperatures like this, plunging into ice water is probably not on the top of anyone’s to do list… but that was exactly the case last Saturday night outside the CN Centre, where participants for UNBC JDC West’s annual Chillin’ for Charity Fundraiser, in partnership with Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, set up their pool to raise funds for heart health.

Event Co-captain, UNBC Finance and Marketing student, Christian Clark-Gray, called the event a huge success. Participants set up outside the CN Centre box office during “Community Hero’s Night” at the Prince George Cougars game, and took the icy plunge into a pool of cold water to raise money for Cardiac Care in the North.

Every last cent of the proceeds will be given to Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, and will be put to use purchasing new Cardiac care equipment for an upcoming Cardiac clinic in Prince George, a total fundraising goal of about 1 million dollars.

To date, the Chillin’ for Charity Fundraiser brought in over $10,000. $500 on the night of the ice water dunk, and the rest solicited from donations across the city and province. The UNBC JDC West crew will continue to raise funds for Spirit of the North’s initive to close the gaps in the healthcare services of Northern BC, until their Gala event on December 3rd.
