Premier Eby launches new Public Safety Plan for British Columbia
PRINCE GEORGE- The broad scope of the sweeping new measures touched on everything from new housing initiatives, increased mental health crisis supports, to the integration of drug detox facilities with hospital emergency rooms. All heralded as welcome changes to many of those recently elected to Prince George City Council.
Perhaps most prolific in the weekend’s announcement, the addition of new resources for provincial police and public prosecutes to put and end to the “catch and release” of violent and repeat offenders, something MLA for Prince George – Mackenzie, Mike Morris, says are basic steps for improved policing, and decisions that have been long overdue.
Back at the municipal level though, The end of “catch and release”, and promising signs that the provincial government is beginning to take a hardline on violent and repetitive crimes, all welcome changes here in Prince George, regardless of the wait, or who takes the credit.
