PRINCE GEORGE- It’s been quite the first week for Premier David Eby, Who’s outlined many new policies, including one involving housing.

The new legislation requires municipalities to hit certain housing benchmarks. The Province will review housing need reports and select eight to ten municipalities where they will speed up permitting, And with those likely to be in the lower mainland some are concerned Northern BC is being forgotten.

“I don’t think any of those communities in the first eight to 10 listed are going to be in northern B.C., which in and of itself is a is is concerning,” said Cori Ramsay.

Premier Eby also spoke about appointing an advisor to review the situation if municipalities don’t hit their goals, which again concerning to some.

“When I hear things about special advisers being able to come into communities who are not from those communities making recommendations about bylaw amendments, you know that that is concerning,” said Ramsay.

Adding on to the housing news this week, the Premier announced Tuesday that housing will become its standalone ministry.
