PRINCE GEORGE- With black friday right around the corner, there is no better time than now to shop safely online.

More than 10 million Canadians have been impacted by online shopping scams.

“We’ve become a little bit too comfortable with it,” said David Nuti, of Nord Security.

Nuti also spoke about how you could be getting scammed without even knowing it.

“Spoof emails, fakes, frauds, imitations that land in the inbox all the time,” said Nuti. “Those go out to millions of users at a time.”

Nuti also warned about sharing personal information when sending emails in return for extra discounts.

It’s not just emails, there are thousands of websites looking to scam you. However, there are a few things you can look out for this holiday season.

“If the spelling and grammar on a website are questionable or makes you laugh out loud at the word choices, probably skip that website,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, the media relations officer with the Prince George RCMP.

Other things to look out for are deals that are “too good to be true” and looking for websites with a locked padlock symbol which confirms they are secure.
