On-street parking prohibited overnight in downtown Prince George from October though to April to assist snow clearing

PRINCE GEORGE- It was a busy day, but it was business as usual for Prince George City Yard Plow Crews, as the cleanup following Tuesday Night’s snowfall was underway.

Overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday Morning, 5 to 7 centimeters of snow had fallen in Prince George and the surrounding areas over a period of just hours… not a substantial volume by any means, but it had fallen so fast, that the forecasting models for this passing weather system had met the criteria for a Snowfall Warning by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

While This snowfall event may not have been too much of an issue in rural areas or along highway routes, within the city center any amount of falling snow can pile up in a hurry, and that’s the reason for the city’s on-street parking bylaw that prohibits parking on city centre streets from midnight to 7am, from October through April.

When a plow operator has to be re-dispatched to a previously cleared road, just to deal with the wind rows from around your car’s parking spot once it’s been moved, it creates preventable delays in the smooth operation of PG City Yard’s Plow Crews, and unsafe conditions for drivers who come across the drifts before the plow’s have a chance to come back.
