CNC’s Automotive Service Technician program in need of cars for apprentice mechanics
PRINCE GEORGE- Students in CNC’s Automotive Service Technician program are powering through their final exams, but for a student mechanic, finals can be a lot more hands on than what you’d expect in a classroom. As part of their practical block for CNC’s Automotive program, 3rd year students are required to complete diagnostic work on a real vehicles owned by a Prince George locals that are presenting check engine lights.
The College of New Caledonia has put out a call to the public for personal vehicles with an engine light on for 3rd year students to diagnose as part of their exam. Once the diagnostic work has been completed students in other blocks of the automotive program will complete the required repairs under the watchful eye of their mentors and instructors. It’s all designed to give students the most realistic shop experience possible, mirroring what they’ll find in industry, and it’s had a huge impact on student confidence.
While the Auto shop is always in need of a roster of cars and trucks for students to perfect their craft, Instructor Ken Rowell is reminding the public that if you’re interested in dropping off your car, it’s important to remember that these are students, trying to make the most of each learning opportunity that comes through their bay doors, so it’s quality over quantity.
