Phishing scams are on the rise again
PRINCE GEORGE — When it comes to fraudsters, they don’t take a holiday. Reports of scams taking place through various mediums are all too common, but those that happen over the holiday season can be particularly callous. Phishing scams are generally the most common type of scam out there.
Jeff Horncastle, with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says that they have seen an increase in phishing scams, and over the holiday season, fraudsters will portray themselves as Canada Post or other shipping companies to claim that someone has not paid a shipping charge.
Cpl. Jennifer Cooper says that the Prince George RCMP receive reports of scams weekly, if not daily. She says it is important to contact police if you have been a victim of a scam.
