Very little change in December jobless numbers for Prince George

OTTAWA- A combination of slightly fewer people working last month, and slightly more looking for work , accounted for a slight rise in Prince George’s jobless rate .

The numbers out of Statistics Canada this morning show the unemployment rate inched up to 4.9 percent from 4.2 percent in November , and 4.1 percent in December of 2021.

Overall , BC saw a dip in the jobless numbers to 4.2 percent last month from 4.4 percent the previous month .

The overall the economy added more than 100-thousand jobs in December, bringing the national unemployment rate down to 5.0 per cent. That’s close to the record-low of 4.9 per cent reached in June and July of last year.
