UPS shipping delays put Christmas on hold for Mackenzie residents

MACKENZIE – Over two weeks since the holidays and many Mackenzie residents and businesses still await packages that were supposed to be delivered prior to Christmas Day.

While several shipping companies have managed to get gifts into residents’ hands before Christmas Day, some residents waiting for a parcel through UPS are still waiting.

One resident still waiting is Sylvia Dean, the status online shows her package has been delayed due to weather since December 22nd.

“The order was sent on December 3rd,” said Dean. “The customer service has been horrible.”

According to Dean the package is not far. UPS agents she spoke with in December said the parcel was stuck in a Prince George warehouse awaiting pick up for the company’s twice-weekly run north to Mackenzie.

Dean said she even attempted to pick up the parcel herself at the depot but was unsuccessful, even after phoning ahead.

Shannon Bezo, President at the Mackenzie Chamber of Commerce said several businesses have also been affected by the shipping delays.

Bezo said several small businesses in the community that rely on revenue over the Christmas season were left with low inventory due to the delays. According to Bezo, the company contracted to deliver for UPS is holding the community hostage.

In a statement, UPS acknowledged the situation and noted they are working towards a solution.

““Customer service is important to us, and we take the delay of any package seriously. We regret the inconvenience the issues have caused in these particular areas and we are actively working to resolve the issue for our customers.”

CKPG News reached out to Tec Trucking Services the local contractor responsible for UPS delivery services but nobody was available for comment.
