PRINCE GEORGE — On Friday night, the Prince George Astronomical Society held it’s first open house of the year at their observatory in Beaverly.

Malhar Kendurkar is the president of the society and says that the society is a non-profit organization, operating and maintaining the observatory with volunteers.

According the society’s website, the observatory houses a 0.61 meter Cassegrain telescope, one of the largest amateur telescopes in Canada.

The society will be hosting open houses every Friday at 7:30 pm, and will have a break in the summer before starting back up again in September.

The observatory is roughly half an hour from Prince George, but the drive is well worth it to catch some of spectacular sights the night sky has to offer.
