PRINCE GEORGE — A man has been arrested after fleeing police and then crashing his pickup truck shortly after.

Prince George RCMP say that on January 12, 2023, just after 2:00pm, attempted to pull over a red GMC Sierra near Hammond Avenue and Lyon Street, the driver failed to to stop and then fled at a high rate of speed.

Just a few minutes later, witnesses reported to police that there was a two-vehicle crash near the 4100-block of First Avenue. After police arrived on the scene, they discovered the red GMC Sierra had crashed with a cube truck. The driver of the GMC Sierra fled the accident scene on foot, leaving behind two passengers. The Sierra was uninsured, had a license plate from a different vehicle, and contained ammunition and a loaded firearm.

Cpl. Jennifer Cooper says that the driver of the red pickup was located and arrested and police identified him as 28-year-old Hayden Lee Alwood, who is known to police. Alwood was wanted on an arrest warrant and was found breaching a release order. RCMP officers also found a large quantity of suspected cocaine after searching Mr. Alwood.
