PRINCE GEORGE – Over 20 delegates got a behind-the-scenes look at industry in Prince George on Tuesday in advance of the kick-off of the 20th Annual BC Natural Resources Forum.

The ‘Low-Carbon Tour’ provided delegates with a lengthy look at the operations at Lakeland Mills and how the facility feeds the PG’s Downtown Renewable Energy System.

After the tour at Lakeland Mills delegates visited the grounds of Winton Homes and Cottages to see a demonstration building that meets the 2032 BC Energy Step Code requirements for all new buildings.

“As part of producing that lumber, we generate biofuel, so it’ll be sawdust, it’ll be hard fuel, it’ll be some chips, and all of those products have an end use for us.” said Dave Herzig, General Manager of Lumber Operations at Sinclair Forest Products. “Certainly at this site we’ll take our sawdust and our hard fuel and that allows us to generate heat for our plant and for the Downtown Renewable Energy System.”

According to Colin Carson, CEO at Tourism PG these industry tours could lay the groundwork for a tourist offering down the road.

The group was also given presentations from Tidewater Renewables, Hydra Energy, and Arbios Biotech part of the low-carbon package BC’s Northern Capital offers.
