PRINCE GEORGE– Flashback all the way to January 10th. Calgary Hitman Forward Zach Funk was called aside in practice and found out he was the newest Prince George Cougar.

“They sat me down in the office and told me I’m going to PG. I was excited off the bat. I have a lot of family here. They got a good young team and they really wanted me.” – Zac Funk, Acquired at January 10th Trade Deadline

After the team finished in Kelowna they made a special stop at a Gas Station to pick up Funk before beginning their tour of the Central Division. On that road trip, it was a quick turnaround for the former Hitman player, As Prince George faced off against Calgary in just his 4th game as a Cougar.

“That was special. I’m glad I could score in that game. It was a little bit weird seeing the guys across the ice and being on a different side. But still a really cool experience.” – Zac Funk on facing his old team

Fast Forward to today and Funk is on the top line with Koehen Ziemmer and Riley Heidt and has 6 points in 6 games with the Cougars. The Coldstream BC product is looking forward to building chemistry with the two NHL Prospects as the season goes on.

“That is very cool. They’re exciting to watch and exciting to play with. They’re two extremely talented players and they’re doing everything well right now and they’re bringing me along” – Zac Funk on playing with Heidt & Ziemmer.

Today Funk took to the CN Centre Ice for the first time in his WHL Career. Doing drills with his new teammates and getting used to the new environment. And for the type of player fans can expect to see on their Home Ice.

“I think I got a lot of skill around the net. I can be physical. I have a gritty game, but I’m also a skill guy too. I can bring a lot of things to the table and I can help my linemates succeed.”

Funk will be wearing the number 17 and will make his home debut Saturday Night against Prince Albert on Indigenous Night.
