PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties are looking to speak with a local drone operator.

RCMP say the drone was flying above a home on the 2600-block of Quince Street that was the subject of a police investigation back on January 25 at around 11 a.m.

Police say the drone crashed on the house and was seized. RCMP say the operator is now facing fines and possible criminal charges because flying a drone above an active police investigation is against the law.

“We want to remind the public that there are fines and possible criminal charges that could result from flying a drone above an active police investigation. Micro-drone operators are required to follow the Transport Canada guidelines for drone operation, which include avoiding emergency sites and first responder perimeters, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
