Estate of Elsie Osterberg, donates over $80,000 to support post-secondary students in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE- Elsie Osterberg was a self taught master craftswoman. In her 89 years, she developed a passion for hard work and a nigh unmatched attention detail. She made a living in Prince George by starting her own upholstery business, specializing in helicopter interiors and blade covers. Elsie was known in her later years as the creative force behind hundreds of colorful embroidered rugs adorning the walls and floors of friends and adopted family alike, her rugs equally cherished by the businesses and institutions she’s donated them to along the way, as a symbol of her appreciation for those who spend their own lives helping others.
Elsie’s Estate donated over $40,000 to post secondary institution’s across the city with the intention of setting up emergency relief funds for struggling students. Alison Akehurst, a close friend of Elsie and the executrix of her will, says education was Elsie’s true passion, and in her passing, she wanted to leave behind a legacy of support for young minds fighting against the odds to get their start in a world that can be extremely tough on students
The new student support fund will be going live at CNC in the very near future, The college is currently putting the final touches on the fund, and is inviting interested student’s to apply for the Elsie Osterberg Student Support Fund directly through the student financial aid portal, where it’ll be listed alongside other awards and bursaries at the college. Elsie’s donation fit seamlessly into the existing disbursement framework set up by CNC, making her dream of supporting students, a reality in short order.
