March for Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls held in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE – It was an All Nations march of solidarity in downtown today, as the ‘Walk for Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ got underway. Representatives from first nations, spanning the length of the highway of tears were in attendance, joined by a strong showing of city locals, who came out to add their voices to the growing chorus of calls for justice.
The walk for justice got underway with a fiery display of passion despite the fridged cold. participants gathered shortly after noon on the courthouse steps, for a prayer and a dedication of intentions, before walking down 3rd avenue accompanied by the unwavering voices of elders in song, and the pulsing heartbeat pattern of traditional drumming. The destination, The Prince George Native Friendship Centre, where honoured guest speakers shared their first hand experiences of survival.
