PRINCE GEORGE — At the intersection of Highways 16 and 97, members from the telecommunications workers union, USW local 1944, were rallying for higher wages and a better contract.

Kara Montgomery is a customer service representative with Telus in Prince George and says that they are fighting for a better, fairer contract with Telus.

“Telus has chosen to walk away from the bargaining table at this point and not come back. So we’re hoping that we can get them to come back to the table and and get a fair contract.” – Kara Montgomery

Those at the rally hope that by bringing attention to this issue is that Telus will return to the bargaining table and that it may inspire others to do something as well, like writing to their elected officials.

“Well, if they can do anything to encourage, tell us to come back to the bargaining table, whether it be talk to their families or, you know, send tell us an email. I mean, we’d appreciate any help we can get.” – Kara Montgomery

Workers here and across Canada have been at the bargaining table with Telus for 14 months not yet having reached an agreement on a new contract.
