PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Men’s basketball team’s season wrapped up a little earlier than expected. However, going into the final playoff game they fought through adversity only having 8 players available. Now the program focuses on next year which sees younger players look to take the next step in their game and the program try and reach an all-new level after achieving some milestones this year.

“This group was able to accomplish some really special things this year. Obviously a historic win for us over UBC early in the year. Then we swept Calgary. Big wins against two real power schools in our conference. Proud of those things and a lot of the positives that we accomplished this year with plenty of positives to take away during the season” – Todd Jordan, Head Coach, Men’s Basketball

With plenty of positives to take away from the schedule another plus for the team is the development of their players. One of those players is Guard Justin Sunga who ended his freshman season in the starting lineup. He believes this Twolves team has a great future ahead and he’s looking forward to this offseason to improve his own game as well.

“For me at least, I think the one thing that I lack is physical size and so in this offseason, I’m probably going to look to put on some more size, get a little quicker, get a little stronger, and just keep playing.” – Justin Sunga, Guard, UNBC Timberwolves Basketball

The Men’s team started the 2nd half of the year losing seven straight to the top three teams in the Canada West Conference, before battling back and clinching a playoff spot. Although, it wasn’t ideal at the time. Head Coach Todd Jordan knows his team going through that adversity will be crucial in their future seasons.

“The college basketball season, there’s a lot of ups and downs and it’s a grind. With the way our schedule worked this year, we had those, top three teams in the conference back to back to back. We were hoping to come out of there with a win or two and it didn’t work out that way. It showed a lot of toughness from the guys to come back and get that win against Mount Royal and then, sweep Thompson Rivers and secure our playoff spot.” – Todd Jordan, Head Coach, Men’s Basketball

The team finished with an 8-12 record and will look to improve on it next year with all players returning to the team for the 2023-2024 season.
